So, I originally created this DIY for an old blog (briteideasbydesign.com) I attempted to start a few (2 years) ago. I wanted to bring this to my new site because it is one of my favorite projects I have done to date! Before everyone starts freaking out, I love books just as much as the next person. (I am currently reading Sharp Objects – Gillian Flynn) I know some of you will be upset (disgusted) that I took a book and destroyed it. But hear me out. These books are from garage sales that would have ended up in the trash had I not bought them (convinced yet…. let me try harder) Many of them have been destroyed by the years of use(abuse) they have received. It’s not like I sacrificed children to create this project and we all know that we can’t save all the books. Point is, I understand where you are coming from but you have to know that there are so many books that get thrown away daily… Look at this as a way to re-purpose the old warn out books that are doomed for the trash. That is all I can say on the matter (haters are gonna hate) Look at this as a good thing not a bad. 🙂
DIY: Hidden Book Storage
- Box (create your own to size or buy one that fits your bookcase)
- Books (hit up garage sales for the doomed for trash books please 😉 )
- Saw or X-acto knife
- Glue gun & glue sticks
1. Cut the binding of the books that will be glued to your box. I used a saw but you could also cut them using an X-acto knife. Leave the front page and back page of my first and last book so you were not able to see the box from the sides.
2. Begin gluing the first book onto the box. I started with the left side; glued on the cover then the binding on the top.
3. Continue to glue across the front of the box. Once you reach the last book, glue binding then front cover to side of box.
4. Allow books to dry.
5. Time to put your boxes on display!
